THE SECOND THE screen blacked out at the end of the last episode of The Sopranos, a sequel was out of the question. While some modern TV classics could conceivably be extended (Matthew Weiner sadly hasn’t responded to my pitch for ‘Sally In The ’70s’, in which Sally Draper encounters Watergate and second-wave feminism), there was simply no way, even before James Gandolfini’s premature death, that the story of the Soprano family could move forwards without destroying that perfect ambiguity.
