AS THE son of the late comedy legend Carl Reiner, Robert Norman Reiner's childhood was a master class in comedy - not that he realized it a first.

“When you're a kid, you think your family is like every other,” Rob has shared. “But then I'd go over to my friends' houses, and it wasn't so funny over there.” Eventually, he'd create his own laughs as Archie Bunker's son-in-law before finding his true calling as the director of such pics as The Princess Bride and Stand by Me, and as an activist. However, Rob, who turns 75 on March 6, believes his best role is as husband and father of four crediting his wife of over 30 years, Michele, for that realization.

“She has helped raise me. The thing I [often] talk about, how women show you what's important, she has done for me."

"You have to give people the pleasure of giving you." -Rob Reiner

7 2007 TO-DO LIST "When I did the Bucket List, I had just turned 60. Sol was for the first time really understanding the preciousness of life," Rob once shared. "You kind of intellectualize these things when you're young. When you're older, you kind of internalize what it means to get older, what it means where you don't have all the time in the world and you want to be able to live every moment."

8 2012 NEW HORIZONS Rob returned to TV to play Zooey Deschanel's father (and Jamie Lee Curtis' hub) on New Girl, because "they let you try anything and that's fun for me. To me, it's like a lark. It's a fun thing to do. So, if it's not really fun, you know, there's no point in doing it."
