All Things Bright And Beautiful
CBS Watch! Magazine|July/August 2021
For some, it’s a walk on the beach. For others, a poignant interaction with a loved one. But however we describe “beauty,” one thing’s for certain: It’s always more than skin deep.

I define beauty as:

The ageless old adage that beauty is in the eye of the beholder runs deep and very true. For me, beauty can be anything from a look, a glance, a smile, a moment in time, to something deep and resonating, something timeless and everlasting. Beauty can also be earned, developed over time. When I was a child, my mother grew hibiscus in our backyard, and to this day each time I see one of these beautiful flowers, it brings back memories of a time that has moved on. The flower brings back the memories of beauty itself, of moments, of time, of people I love. That, to me, encaptures the breadth of beauty. In turn, the more I spend time in a relationship with someone, the more that develops, the more I start to recognize, to see the beauty that lives inside that person, and from that moment on, the beauty of them only gets deeper. For example, I fell in love with my wife very quickly, and we have been together for some time. However, each and every day I find beauty in her I had not recognized or been aware of previously. Beauty is beauty; it is ever flowing.

I pamper myself with:

Self-care. That can be anything from a workout to a haircut, getting a manicure or a pedicure. Yes, I get a manicure and a pedicure—and I absolutely love it. Particularly when we go as a family and we’re all seated next to each other—one of the simple joys of life! I grew up surrounded by women, and most of the significant influences in my life have been women, so it’s very easy for me to identify with the idea of taking care of oneself.

My beauty icons are:

I grew up around Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, and Karl Lagerfeld, so when I think of icons and beauty, I think of these, as individuals and collectively, as they have influenced the essence of beauty in such a significant manner. Both of my parents were fashion conscious and fashion forward. Looking good was important to both of them, and they had a large influence on me in that sense, so on a more personal note, I would consider my parents to be my beauty-awareness icons.

The most beautiful moment in my life:

My daughter had a significant birthday recently, and watching her with her friends, the way she carries herself, who she’s become, in all her glory, all her beauty, seeing my wife, and knowing that we had a hand in that development, that growth, that becoming, that is beauty right there; that is my most beautiful moment to date.

The most beautiful quote I’ve ever heard: “I love you, Dad.”

I feel most beautiful when:

I’m surrounded by people I love. When I have the opportunity to watch them laugh, give them a hug, or enjoy a conversation, that’s when I feel beauty at its deepest and most profound place.

Sheryl Underwood

Co-HostThe Talk

I feel most beautiful when:

I accomplish something and when I’m influential. I like my natural beauty without makeup and wigs. But I feel just as beautiful when I’ve been in glam. God made everybody beautiful. It’s what you do with it.

My beauty icon is:

Glam master Dell McDonald, who has spearheaded the evolution of my look and makes me beautiful inside and out. He has made me a better person. I am in awe of his technical skills and his mastery of the mechanics of makeup artistry. I wish I had known him when I was younger, because all this beauty is middle-aged flyness!

The most beautiful quote I’ve ever heard is:

It’s from my father: “You’re not better than anybody, but nobody’s better than you.”

Most beautiful car:

I love Bentleys!

The most beautiful moment in my life was: When my father said he was proud of me, right before he died. Getting that pride and support from my father was the most beautiful moment of my life.

Zeeko Zaki

ActorFBI

I define beauty as:

Beauty is confidence. Being comfortable in your own skin and who you are has always rendered the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen.

I feel most beautiful when:

After a haircut and beard trim. My beard is like makeup for me. When it’s perfectly cut I can’t believe how I look ... so thank you to the barbers.

The most beautiful moment in my life:

The stars at the top of Mount Sinai in Egypt, where the Ten Commandments were found. I have never seen stars like that, and the location’s history combined to make the most beautiful moment in my life when I was there in 2010.

Most beautiful flower:

Peonies. My friend has a farm, and when the fields are filled with them, it is breathtaking.

Beauty and the Beast or Sleeping Beauty?

Beauty and the Beast. It was the first musical/play I was ever a part of and the story always resonated with me, especially with my 100-pound weight loss transformation.

The most beautiful quote I’ve ever heard:

A quote about black-and-white photography: “With the absence of color, you see how much color there really is.”
