THOMAS JOHN WAS FOUR YEARS OLD WHEN HE HAD HIS first encounter with the afterlife. “My late grandfather started visiting me,” recalls John, who correctly described to his parents the location of a missing wristwatch that had haunted the family for years (Grandpa’s best friend Jack had it!). But even then, his parents were skeptical. “This was 30 years ago,” he says. “People didn’t talk about mediums. They just thought it was incredibly weird.”
