I have loved Amanda since her 2016 multiplatinum-selling debut album Amazulu. And, to prepare for our interview, I listened to her new offering – Power. I was blown away not only by the beautiful songwriting and powerful messages but also by the immense vulnerability she exhibits in the 18-track album. It was so deeply personal that it felt as though I was reading her diary. I ask if this was intentional. “For a long time, I couldn’t write or express myself even though I had things to say. I had a severe creative block because so much was happening in my life. But, when I started putting this album together earlier this year, the feelings just poured out of me. Everything I previously couldn’t say or was afraid of saying just came rushing out. So, yes, in many ways it is a journal of the last three years of my life.” She candidly admits that she was nervous because of the pressure of her successful debut. “But, people have been giving me amazing feedback,” she says.
