We have talked endlessly about the changes brought in by technology. The larger business landscape and the broad workings of every industry have been transformed. While the ‘way we do business’ is changing workstyles, the most significant changes will happen to the individual habits and the way we look at productivity. The quotidian 9-5 job is passe! We will perhaps not see any of the emerging jobs coming with the security of ‘changeless’ environments. We will now be faced with a world where we will have to constantly re-engineer ourselves and be prepared for huge changes in every aspect of our waking life. As the renowned author, Alvin Toffler says, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” Increasingly, change is not something that we will have to negotiate with time and again but managing change will be as fundamental as managing life!
Whatever work sphere we are in, there are some fundamental changes to what resembles ‘productive’ and what must constitute ‘habits’ for us in the long term. These are not short-term measures to keep us going till the world changes back to normal! There is no return to the old normal. We will move into a world that would have changed forever and there is no vestige of the past that we can hope to see again. Author Charles Duhigg has an interesting take on productivity in his book, Smarter, Faster, Better. It explains productivity in this way: ‘It’s basically being able to first identify your goals, what matters most to you, and then being able to achieve those, without stress and strife and a sense of incompleteness in chasing them. Not necessarily getting everything you want, but not having that thing sitting on your shoulders, about whether you’re ever going to be able to get close to what you actually want.’

The US Fed has printed money at a frenetic pace after the pandemic, and the run-up in inflation has already begun. IS THE CRACKDOWN ON NIDHI COMPANIES UNCALLED FOR?
Interestingly, the retrospective operation was introduced through the Rules, which in my view, is also against the spirit and intent of section 406 of the CA Act, 2013. Apparently, the term “meets” too has an inherent subjectivity, which one would argue bestows unbridled discretion on the approving authority.

ON WORK, SERVICE, AND LIFE…
Most of the waking hours of an average human life are spent delivering a vocation of our choice and often not our choice. Life in the 21st century has been one long tryst with habitual monotony. We fall into the patterns that society has built around us and move through the grooves and the much-walked pathways of others, as they seem to be the only clearing in the forest. As we wander through those terrains, life is still structured in ways we have no control over as many a quotidian task has been thrust upon us, as if we have no choice.
