India’s crude steel production stood at 9.85 million tons (mt) in August 2021, up 8.2 percent over August 2020 and by 0.8 percent over July 2021, provisional steel ministry data showed.
With 81 percent share, the private sector (38.522 mt, up by 33 percent) led crude steel production compared to the 19 percent contribution of the PSUs.
Hot metal production stood at 6.579 mt in August 2021, up by 9.7 percent over August 2020 but was down by 0.9 percent from July 2021. With 69 percent share, the private sector (22.194 mt, up by 25.4 percent) led hot metal production, compared to the 31 percent contribution of the PSUs.
