Digital technologies in the Indian education space are evident everywhere and these are impacting the 'what, where, how and why' that students learn, and who they learn from. Many schools are using digital technologies like audio visuals, digital assessments and subject labs that are all enabled by the internet. Hardware items like laptops and tablets that quickly, easily and cost effectively connect students with the huge range of digital services and resources are also being used. However, the many benefits of digital learning are accompanied by some vast challenges. These 'digital challenges' are real and present a dilemma to schools seeking to use digital technologies to enhance student learning.
The concept of digital classrooms is common across India, especially in the top tier schools. Education companies across India have pushed this concept for the last 5 years and have had a good deal of success in private CBSE and ICSE schools. Looking at this success, many state governments have also added to the bank of digital classrooms in the country and have managed to make it a part of the main stream method of learning and teaching. Local players like Navneet Education have also managed to cater to the massive numbers of state board schools in Maharashtra and Gujarat. These schools do not have deep pockets but yearn to give their students the very best quality of education available. As of today, India has over 1.3 crore classrooms in K-12 segment, out of which not even 20% have been digitized.

Currently, digital learning covers a host of ideas from Audio-Visual to slide shows, internet enabled world class videos to locally sourced digital information. Digital learning has many forms and many solutions. Scientifically, audio-visuals are a better tool for learning and teaching as they activate more senses in a student while learning, and stores information in their permanent memory. We all have heard the example of remembering a dialog and scene from an old movie vs remembering the list of chapters from your 10th standard history text book.
