The latest tightening in safety protocols is in response to new COVID-19 clusters that have resulted in a spike in community transmission.

The new restrictions under Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) include the reimposition of a dine-in ban at F&B outlets, as well as a limit of two people for all social gatherings. Recent quarantine orders have hit 30,000, with some anecdotal evidence hinting at a possible strain in the island’s ring fencing system, as reported by the Business Times.

This will mean that businesses dependent on physical customers will be greatly affected. In a joint press statement by the Alliance of Frontline Business Trade Associations, representatives from the F&B, retail, and SME sector, plus business tenants expressed deep concern with the sustainability of their businesses.
