There are about 12 million retail investor accounts in the stock markets and many of them are dormant or have low activity in them.
One of the reasons for this low activity is that several investors open trading accounts because banks coerce them into opening one and link it for a 3-in-one account to save, invest and maintain their demat holdings. What starts on a novel note, tends to give room for several bank relationship managers to get account holders into trading, especially in the derivatives segment, which is extremely risky for new investors.
