On June 6, Videocon Industries faced bankruptcy proceedings after the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) admitted a plea from lenders, led by SBI, against Videocon Industries Ltd, controlled by Venugopal Dhoot, to initiate a resolution process with a new owner to be found through a bidding process over the next 180 days.

A Single Bench of NCLT presided over by M.K. Shrawat ruled in an oral order that the insolvency petition is fit for admission. Videocon Industries, the flagship company of Dhoots, owes around ₹20,000 crore to banks and has been irregular in clearing its dues. NCLT is to soon hear the petition against Videocon Telecom. Reportedly, nearly a dozen companies of the Videocon Group having a cumulative debt of around ₹44,000 crore are surfacing similar action.
