El pasado 11 de agosto, el secretario ejecutivo de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (Cepal), José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, fue claro al hablar de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA). La describió: como “una nueva fuerza transformadora con un rango de potenciales impactos tan amplio que no es exagerado decir que puede cambiar el curso de la historia de la humanidad”. Sus palabras fueron pronunciadas en el marco de la presentación del Índice Latinoamericano de Inteligencia Artificial (ILIA), en el que se destaca que, hoy, México no tiene una estrategia vigente en la materia.
La IA vive un hype (bombo publicitario) tras la irrupción de ChatGPT en noviembre pasado, pero esta tecnología lleva mucho más tiempo siendo desarrollada y utilizada. De hecho, ya llega al consumidor final de distintas formas: en el sector salud, por ejemplo, se usa para el diagnóstico médico asistido por IA para la detección temprana de enfermedades como el cáncer o el desarrollo de medicamentos a través de simulaciones. En el ámbito automotriz, está presente en la optimización de rutas para flotas de vehículos, mantenimiento predictivo de vehículos y detección de fallas en tiempo real.
