As furniture and accent pieces anchor an area in a hierarchy of proportion and volume, lighting layouts define and enliven it. Lighting is regarded as an essential component of any functioning space. But, when strategised well, the installations can meld with the space to create an interesting crossplay of light and shade that lends a touch of playfulness to the ambience. While good lighting has always been non-negotiable, in these unprecedented times, building inhabitants have gained more prominence. With more people spending more time indoors, consumers expect lighting that is both aesthetic and functional. Lighting, which was purely utilitarian until 2017, has changed due to consumer awareness and their particular requirements.
