We take the Fortuner from a mundane life in the city to a thrilling adventure through the wilderness

Break Free
WE’RE SLAVES. SLAVES TO A SYSTEM. A system that makes us work through the week to make enough to blow over the weekend. A system that defines success in terms of how fat your wallet and how thin your waistline is. One that feeds you deception and lies packaged as the ultimate truth, forces you to conform to its rules, and does everything it can to break you if you don’t. Orwell’s dystopian predictions in 1984 have never been more relevant.

However, for some, conforming was never an option. There exists a group of outliers who refuse to bend to the rules. Who couldn’t care if the world tears at them for refusing to live the life that is expected of them. They see though the doublethink, and rise above it. They are focussed on living — truly living — on their own terms and by their own rules.

I’m a slave most days of the week, but not today. Today I’ve perched myself on the comfortable seat of the Toyota Fortuner and with the sky through the windscreen and one wheel clawing clear air, I can attest to be truly living. I’ve brought the Toyota Fortuner to the back of beyond, to crawl up a goat trail that leads to a beautiful lake. Getting away from the mundane, doing something that will get the adrenaline flowing, finishing off with a night under the stars will surely put things in the right perspective.

This Toyota Fortuner is a beast. It’s a pity that so many of them that we see lurking in our cities or ploughing down the highways never be put to proper use. And by proper use, I don’t mean rolling up to the lobby of a five-star hotel, but heading out offroad. Just look at the trail it was gobbling up for its Sunday brunch — it would have left most SUVs with smashed bumpers and bruised egos. And yet, this thing just relentlessly clambered over everything.

The ordinary
