Mind Over Matter!
Truck & Driver|Christmas 2020
While it may not have been possible to have a truck show this year, the Breaker Breaker team came up with an innovative solution – a huge convoy!

Mind Over Matter!

The Breaker Breaker truck show held its first gathering in 2019 and was established by Leanne Lyons and Lisa McWilliams to raise awareness surrounding men’s mental health, with particular focus on truck drivers. Having received enormous support from the transport industry, the pair organised the truck show at Nutts Corner in 2019 which drew in over 300 trucks, an impressive turnout for a new event.

Although the coronavirus restrictions mean that large public gatherings are not possible, a daring plan was hatched to attempt a world record for the largest convoy of trucks in the world. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the current record is held by the Dutch who managed a convoy of 416 vehicles on 4 November 2016 at Dronten, west of Zwolle.

The route for the convoy began at Nutts Corner, went south along the A26 to Moira, then headed west along the M1 all the way to the Ballygawley roundabout. The combination of the ban on public gatherings combined with dreadful weather, saw to it that the record wasn’t broken, although that did not dampen the enthusiasm of everyone who made the effort to attend. Considering the circumstances, the turnout was fantastic, and now the team will be turning their attention to 2021!

Leanne would like to thank all of the drivers and hauliers who attended, in particular the sponsors; hauliers Manfreight and PRM along with Hi-Power and Advance fasteners.
