There were so many great stories sent in for this category, it was very difficult to pick out a winner. Ashley Tennant wrote a great email explaining how hard her dad works for the family company, which can trace its roots all the way back to 1900, when they started out delivering milk churns by horse and cart.
Their coaches were commandeered for the war effort in the 1940s and for a while it was buses and coaches that made up the bulk of the operation, at that point the company was run by Peter Tennant III (John’s grandfather) and his brother Thomas and their sisters. It was then subsequently taken over by John’s father Peter and his uncle Ian.
Today, Tennant Transport Ltd is based at a modern purpose-built site by Hyndford Bridge in Lanark and runs a fleet of artics and rigids including cranes, concrete mixers, step-frames, extenders and tippers. Maintenance is carried out on-site, which also features a DVSA test lane.
John runs the company with business partner Graham Sorbie, has 51 employees and a total of 44 trucks. They took over the company in a management buy-out 20 years ago, and while there’s been a lot of changes during that time the firm has gone from strength to strength.
