A perfect stopover when tackling Sani Pass
Melanie Rosettenstein

With weavers’ nests bobbing over tranquil waters and towering oaks swaying in the breeze, the Mkomazana Mountain Cottages are a nature lover’s paradise. Situated at the foot of the legendary Sani Pass in KwaZulu-Natal, they are perfectly placed as a kick-off point for a 4x4 adventure into Lesotho. Nestled between a hillside and the Mkomazana River, the homestead was originally a trading station in the 1800s. Today the self-catering establishment boasts three spacious six-bed houses and two smaller two-bed cottages that exude country comfort and charm.
