One Saved - On To The Next…

Last month, we had to deal with some fairly intensive mechanical surgery after learning the head gasket on our Project ZS was on the way out, so with our £500 budget already blown, we had our work cut out to finish the car off for as little expense as possible.

This wasn’t helped by the fact that on the morning of our final push, an impatient motorist squeezed through a gap that didn’t exist and wiped out the driver’s door mirror, so workshop job number one wasn’t even on our to-do list.

Luckily, the damage was superficial and we were able to clip the mirror back together, with only a spot of polish needed to remove the paint from their car off our mirror. Karma has hopefully left them with a much bigger scrape as they drove off without leaving a note.

With the mirror fixed, we turned our attentions to the rest of the exterior. KM52 ZGW already has great bodywork, but a scuff along the off-side plastic sill cover detracted from its appearance. We ordered up a can of MG Rover Anthracite from Kett Autopaints, masked off the side skirt and sprayed it with a rattle can. The finish isn’t perfect, but the sill is so low down on the car and away from the eye-line that it’s almost impossible to see from above - given our budget, we’re happy with that as a professional repair would have cost over £100.
