To say our most recent monsoon on the West coast of India was a bad one would be the same as equating the plague to a viral fever. It’s just not that simple. Unimaginable quantities of water poured down for days. Roads turned into whitewater rapids and plains turned into lakes. Even boats wouldn’t manage to traverse the torrent of this great deluge. So the moment the monsoon started showing symptoms of retreat, I promptly decided to do a reconnaissance mission to survey the damage. It also happened that BMW Motorrad’s GS Trophy Qualifier was being held in Goa. Me, being the Goa kid that I am, decided to add another trip to my hundreds of other runs.
Now I’m also a big fan of the older Mahindra Scorpio. Not for its road manners, certainly not. But for its robustness and ability to float over the horrid roads our country is so abundant with. I’d been quite curious about how much the new Scorpio improved. Lucky for me, Mahindra had a 2WD one lying around. No wild off-road adventures, then. Ah well, at least I didn’t have to worry about losing a wheel or two along the way.
