Once a mechanic at Norton, Brian Crighton has spent enough time around Wankel engines to develop his own rotary-engined motorcycles called Roton, which even won several Australian races. His latest achievement is the result of a 12-year collaboration with Rotron Power (which manufactures a range of rotary engines for different applications) to put together a breathtakingly loud 690cc Wankel engine that produces 217 bhp at 10,500 rpm and 14.51 kgm at 9500 rpm. This naturally aspirated engine has a specific output of 314 bhp per litre, beyond that of MotoGP bikes that deliver around 300 bhp per litre. And this power-packed mill finds its place in the Crighton CR700W. It is possibly the next best thing to happen in the two-wheeled rotary engine space after the Norton 588 race bikes.The CR700W&#39;s engine components are cast in aluminium and use modern material tech like wear-resistant silicon nitride ceramic apex seals, durable molybdenum and nikasil plating on all engine surfaces. Crighton is positive that it will lead to zero wear between the moving parts. Both the engine and the Nova Transmissions 6-speed box along with the slipper clutch put together tip the scale at 46 kg. The twin-rotor engine which measures 340 mm in length and 240 mm in diameter only weighs 24 kg.<img src="https://cdn.magzter.com/1343304343/1641396828/articles/6QT3wEj1h1641472616001/4444477671.png" />The CR700W&#39;s chassis takes its design attributes from the rotary-powered Norton race bikes from the &#39;90s, as this one, too, uses a similar Spondon-derived aluminium-alloy frame. You can choose between Ohlins or Bitubo for suspension, while other high-performance components include Dymag carbon-fibre wheels and MotoGP-spec Brembo brakes. As much as we&#39;d want this motorcycle to be mass-produced, sadly there will only be 25 hand-built examples that will be sold for &pound;85,000 ( &#8377;85 lakh) each. And while we&#39;re sure it&#39;ll upset the Greta Thunbergs of this world, we look forward to the day when we have sustainable fuels readily available to everyone so that we all get to ride such beautiful well-engineered machines.
