Project Fixer Upper gets a rear end update

One of the first things I wanted to do on the ElCo was to upgrade the suspension.
Project Fixer Upper gets a rear end update

I already had a Hotchkis kit sitting on the shelves that I was going to use in a previous project but never got around to it. In this issue we’ll be installing the rear suspension pieces. In my research I heard several El Camino owners say the addition of an airbag kit for the rear coil springs really helped cut down on wheel hop! So I ordered an airbag kit from Summit Racing. The car has some fairly new KYB gas shocks on it already, so I’ll keep them for now, but eventually they will see an upgrade.

As I’m pulling off the stock suspension two things are obvious; 1) the stamped steel factory components look like they belong on Tonka Toys when compared to the Hotchkis pieces, and 2) they are just plain worn out! All the rubber bushings are shot! So I know this is going to make a big difference in the way the car drives and handles.
