Way Of The Cobra

There is a reason the JW Racing 2.3 EcoBoost Mustang is wearing Shelby Cobra decals…

In the animal kingdom one rule is universal: bright-colours are a warning. From wasps to tigers, frogs and even caterpillars, a lairy coat says “I’m dangerous”. Now this 2.3-litre turbocharged Mustang might not be covered in lime green skin but the warning signs are there.

Shelby Cobra badges on the front wings, the SuperSnake graphics, and the homage to the hardcore CobraJet Mustangs on the rear quarters signify this is one Mustang you don’t want to mess with. Particularly if you’re driving the more expensive ‘GT’, with the 5.0-litre V8 - there’s a good chance you’ll get bitten!

In the interests of good taste, JW Racing boss Jason Hawes has gone for a stealthy look with ‘Project Cobra’. The factory grey paint is complimented by black wheels, external trim that’s been turned from matte black to gloss black, plus loads of carbon fibre. It’s a great-looking car now but it was a snap decision to start the project at all.

“The order books had literally just opened and we knew we had a lengthy wait ahead to get the car, but it was such an important model we decided it would be worth it – both from a professional point of view and a personal one. I couldn’t wait to drive it.”
