IAA Mobility 2021 ticked all the boxes! As a platform for the mobility of the future, the 2021 edition, in Munich, presented a diverse spectrum of mobility solutions. A total of 744 exhibitors and 936 speakers from 32 countries are known to have taken part this year and climate-neutral mobility linked them. Organised by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) jointly with Messe München, an estimated four lakh participants made it to the edition this year. In all, 100 premieres took place, underlying the transformation of mobility. “The new IAA Mobility is a strong signal to the world that international exhibitions in Germany are now possible again,” expressed Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Messe München. Across 98 exhibition areas, 75 bicycle brands, 152 supply firms, tech companies and 78 startups registered their presence. Huawei, Microsoft, IBM, Bosch, Magna, Schaeffler, Continental, Michelin, ZF, MAHLE, Seimens, Valeo, Brose, MicroVision, Intel, Pirelli were among the exhibitors.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called IAA Mobility a “signal of hope”. Besides being the first trade show in Germany, in the aftermath of the pandemic, Merkel termed it as an important initiator for the targeted climate neutrality. “Looking around here, I am firmly convinced that the transformation to climate neutrality will be a success for our country and for our automotive industry,” she said. She called the automotive industry a “central part of the solution” referring to the climate crisis. On EVs, Merkel cited how with passing time, concepts studies of emobility had turned to all manufacturers having electric vehicles suitable for everyday use in their range. She urged the industry to “tap the full potential of all innovations”. In her speech, hydrogen and synthetic fuels found mention as important contributors for climate protection. She called for the expansion of the charging infrastructure with the inclusion of safe and fast charging with green electricity in Europe as she committed to the goal of establishing one million public charging points in Germany by 2030. Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler AG, promised groundbreaking innovations from the industry: “Vehicles will be cleaner and smarter than ever before,” he said.

Landscape into music

It says something about the power of music that some individuals fading into dementia can still recognize the music they knew earlier in their lives. Not to denigrate new music, or music one hasn’t heard before, but our mental jukeboxes award top chart numbers to music that we have lived with over time. Those DJs making their playlists in our brain are the toughest of critics. They don’t care what anyone else might think, “Close to You” is staying in the rotation. Music and memory are linked.
