Did you know, there&rsquo;s something common between our generation&rsquo;s superhero costumes and fast cars? Practicality seems to be the natural course of evolution on both counts. Gone are the spandex-laced skin-tight body suits and in comes, dare I say, more sensible outfits such as jackets, boots and belts that the newer generation Batgirl and Wonder Woman are seen wearing. Even Batman keeps updating his outfit, adding the latest armour and trick bits to keep up with the changing times. And I feel an increasing number of crusader costumes will get less over-the-top with time as more and more characters from the world of comics are transformed into blockbuster movie stars. Don&rsquo;t worry, their outfits would still make the superheroes stand out, just the wackiness would be dialled down a bit.Similarly, most modern-day fast cars too, if not all of them, are shedding a bit of their hooliganism and becoming a bit friendlier; without losing out on their supercar sheen, of course. One such car is the all-new Mercedes-AMG E 63 S. Yes, practicality and AMG may not sound like the most natural companions, but this is a rather unique occasion. Unique because despite being the most powerful stock AMG on planet Earth, the E 63 S isn&rsquo;t the crazy-head speed demon willing to wrap you around a tree at the drop of the hammer. There&rsquo;s aggression, lots of it, but the good part is that all of it is channelled in a controlled manner, similar to someone who&rsquo;s just returned from an art of living program with knowledge on how to rightfully use their energies. And that&rsquo;s what has made me fall in love with the E 63. It wasn&rsquo;t a case of infatuation or love at first sight &ndash; I&rsquo;ve been at the wheel of the new E 63 on three different occasions and clocked more than 700 kilometres in desi conditions with a few laps of the BIC, Greater Noida, thrown in. And I say this with great conviction that for someone who loves his fast cars to be in some sort of stealth mode, this is all the car you would ever need.Allow me explain, why. It has to start with the way it looks &ndash; the E 63 isn&rsquo;t a shout-out-loud &lsquo;hey-look-at-meI&rsquo;m-so-sexy&rsquo; kind of a fast AMG. Instead, it&rsquo;s a &lsquo;did-you have-a-hair-cut-you-look-special-tonight&rsquo; kind of a car and I like it that way. With the matte-grey exteriors, splashes of carbonfibre and black rims, it&rsquo;s very Batman-like, and it also comes with tonnes of firepower. More than 600 brake-horse power and 850 Newtons; how does that sound to you? For the record, the AMG GT R makes &lsquo;only&rsquo; 577bhp and 700NM. And then there&rsquo;s the super-slick AMG 9-shifter, which is not only blisteringly quick to change cogs, it also comes with an awesome bit of tech wizardry; it can either send power to all four wheels or just the rear for times when you are feeling particularly ballsy. Yes, that means you CAN drift or just quickly get the tail out around your favourite corner.<img src="http://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/399/299437/5b8868a4593de/1535666419_loc.jpg"" owidth=1313 oheight=1646" style="height:878px; width:700px" />Did I manage to drift? Sadly, no. The Drift mode came locked in order to save the transmission from excessive abuse, but the tail did step out on more than a couple of occasions, unintentionally though. When I drove it around Lonavala, the little hill station experienced ridiculous levels of downpour, leaving the roads as grippy as those in Iceland. Okay, it was slightly better. However, I must admit, driving on slippery roads along with great levels of electronic aids made me feel like a pro &ndash; the tail would step out around corners and the ESP would intervene right before things turned ugly. A great morale booster. However, to better relish the E 63 S&rsquo; performance, I flew down to Chennai, picked up the performance sedan, drove it to Bangalore and back to Chennai in a matter of 10 hours. And believe me, they were one of the best 10 hours I&rsquo;ve been at the wheel in recent times.The manner in which the E 63 puts all its power down, even with Sport+ dialled in, things never seem like they&rsquo;re going to go out of control. It makes you feel like you&rsquo;re in total control of the proceedings and it doesn&rsquo;t throw unnecessary tantrums. With the help of launch control, it can do 0-100kph sprints in 3.4 seconds. That&rsquo;s Porsche 911 GT3 category. Acceleration bursts are addictive and when complemented by those highly vocal AMG exhaust pipes, it gets the little kid in you to poke its nose every time you find an open stretch of road. Engage the AMG exhaust and the quad pipes roar at full blast and keep switching between pops and crackles during braking and lift-offs. The heavy bass just fills your ears no matter what the revvs are; it&rsquo;s a great experience. Talking of greatness, the AMG steering on the E 63 is mind-blowingly accurate and responsive. It weighs up as you throw the car around bends and combined with its intelligent 4Matic+ suspension, the lines just get tighter and tighter as your accelerate through corners &ndash; there&rsquo;s the goodness of AWD tech helping you enjoy all that power at will, without making a fool of yourself, that too.Wondering what if you aren&rsquo;t in the driver&rsquo;s seat? Don&rsquo;t worry, the cabin is an interesting place to be in. As with any performance car&rsquo;s interior, this one too is swathed in carbonfibre, and with an all-black interior theme, the E63 S looks dapper. Plus, those figure-hugging AMG seats up front are a certain highlight in here &ndash; they will certainly hold you in place around the twisty stuff. Not that you would be thrown around much, the AMG suspension is perfectly tuned to match the E 63&rsquo;s dynamic requirements. With the dampers switched to Sport or Sport+ modes, this spirited E does a fabulous job of keeping things tidy around corners with minimal lateral movements. And surprisingly, it won&rsquo;t make you visit a chiropractor once you step out of the E. Yes, you may be reminded time and&nbsp;again of the surface you&rsquo;re driving on, but not to the point where you would term things harsh. However, if for some reason, you decide to sit at the back, do instruct your chauffer to keep the suspension in Comfort at all times. That&rsquo;s our consumer advice for the month.<img src="http://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/399/299437/5b8868a4593de/1535666424_loc.jpg"" owidth=1839 oheight=979" style="height:373px; width:700px" />So then, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is a great piece of machinery. There&rsquo;s no doubt about that. It&rsquo;s borrowed the performance traits of a crazy supercar and still manages to keep things tidy like a civilised performance sedan should. It&rsquo;s got everything working in its favour &ndash; be it styling, interior, performance and handling, or the ride, which is fairly comfortable, considering its superb road dynamics. In fact, I would say ride comfort is surprisingly good. In the past, I may have criticised the rear seats, but after living with the E 63 for four days, I&rsquo;ll have to eat my words.It&rsquo;s an executive sedan with upwards of 600bhp, a 0-100kph time that embarrasses anything short of a 911 GT3 and much V8 noise. In sheer performance terms, at ₹1.78 crore (on-road, Mumbai), it&rsquo;s actually quite good value and comes across as a great all-rounder. Now, it&rsquo;s time for the superhero costumes to find a middle ground between sticking to the iconic spandex and finding greater levels of practicality and comfort.
