Kia is best known today for its electric e-Niro and Soul EV models, yet their roots reside with the Kia Venga EV concept car first displayed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. While Nissan was just getting its Leaf off the ground, Kia (and the wider Hyundai Motor Group or HMG) were busy reading themselves for their future too.
2010 KIA VENGA EV

The specification was surprisingly modern for a car design concept that’s now over a decade old – the front-wheel-drive electric motor pushed out an adequate 107hp (80kW) with a tire-shredding 280Nm torque. Not bad for a B-segment MPV.

The Venga EV was capable of undertaking the 0-62mph sprint in 11.8 seconds and onto a top speed of 87mph.

The car was also powered by a 24kWh LiPoly (Lithium-Ion Polymer) battery that was fairly advanced for its day and was similar in type to batteries used in today’s smartphones. Notably, at the time, the battery capacity was about as good as one could have hoped for and happened to be the same capacity as the original 2010 Nissan Leaf.
