SOUTHERN ROD & CUSTOM BUILT ONE SERIOUSLY SMOOTH STREET ROD...
SLAMBACK '37

This exceptional Slamback Tudor first hit the elite show car scene back in 2011 when its previous owner and Smokin’ Aces Rod, Muscle & Custom Club member, Tony Aquilina unveiled it at MotorEx in Sydney. Back then it looked a little different, it was painted green from top to bottom in just one hue. In recent years, Tony had the car redone in a different two-tone paint scheme and the “Rad Rod”, built by Shane Rowe at Southern Rod & Custom, continued to score well with the judges at every show it attended.

Soon after it originally started wowing crowds with its sharp detail and slick, swoopy lines, the “Rad Rod” caught the attention of Paul Caccamo, the car’s current owner. He purchased this stylised ’37 Ford from Tony in 2018, but it wasn’t running. Paul took the car off Tony’s hands, got it running again and has been using it as a driver ever since.

Paul comes from a background in auto electrical work and co-owned Star Rodding Auto Electrics until 13 years ago. The company used to do a lot of custom hot rod and drag car work and Paul had more time and opportunity to work on his own project cars, but these days he’s into civil roadworks and that spare time has become less available. Paul also owns a wicked ’41 Willys coupe that we featured in ASR issue 299 and has been chipping away at his current project, an OZE Rods-bodied ’37 Ford three-window coupe.
