Cadmium Red Light is commonly used in place of Vermilion by modern-day artists. This selection is an earthy version of the basic primary colours of yellow, red and blue.Zorn used Ivory Black for this palette because it had a slight tendency towards blue. When the red is added to the &ldquo;blue&rdquo;, you get a smoky violet. Adding a little ochre to this &ldquo;blue&rdquo; gives us a green.
