PRO ALAN KENNY
CAMERA: CANON EOS 5D MK IV
Alan picked up his first ‘proper’ camera back in 2004, and these days his camera of choice is a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. Alan is an automotive, travel and aviation photographer, and since 2018 he’s has been shooting cars for websites and magazines, so he was the perfect pro to help Kamil improve his auto images. APPRENTICE KAMIL GRAJ
CAMERA: CANON EOS 2000D
Kamil is a web developer who in his spare time loves to combine his two main passions: photography and cars. He bought a Canon EOS 2000D two years ago, and has been hooked on taking pictures of his car and driving to landscape locations to take photos since. Kamil is keen to pick up some new tips and techniques to help him capture better shots and expand his portfolio of car images.
TECHNIQUE ASSESSMENT
Alan showed Kamil how to set up his camera to maximise his chances of capturing great-looking auto images
APERTURE PRIORITY MODE
Alan shoots predominantly in Aperture Priority (Av) mode when shooting static cars, and switches to Shutter Priority (Tv) when taking pictures of moving cars. Because the Jaguar that was the subject for our first shot was stationary, Alan set Kamil’s EOS 2000D to Aperture Priority mode, which allowed him to control both the expsosure and the depth of field. A wide aperture like f/1.8 will blur more of the background, while a mid-range aperture value like f/8 or f/11 will capture more sharpness throughout the frame.
