Across the globe, over seven billion elevator journeys are taken each day, making efficient elevators a pressing challenge
Considering that half the world’s population lives in cities — a number expected to jump to 70% by 2050 — efficient vertical transportation is the need of the hour. Though initially, technological advancements in this segment changed the way building were designed, in smart buildings, they are pushing elevator and escalator companies to provide intelligent systems that are safe and sustainable solutions.
Sebi Joseph, president of Otis India, says, “As urbanisation drives the increased need for infrastructure and buildings, the elevator industry plays an important role in supporting that growth with smart and efficient technologies.” It is this commitment to energy efficiency, which makes the industry innovate to increase the life, efficiency, safety and reliability of elevators and escalators. New-age systems consist of cutting-edge digital security system controls such as biometrics, touch screen, destination dispatching and access control systems. These help reduce waiting time for passengers, enhance safety and efficiency and also takes into account maintenance logs.
