BETWEEN TRADITION AND THE FUTURE
Suly Bornstein Wolff

Suly Bornstein Wolff is a multidisciplinary artist that lives and works in Tel Aviv. Her creative work is marked and affected by her being an immigrant who has been uprooted from one country (Brazil) to another (Israel).

While trying to accommodate herself to a new place, new language, and culture, she found herself attracted by certain species of trees that seemed alien to this new landscape, mainly tropical palm trees and Eucalyptuses. These trees were imported from other places for different reasons: The palm trees were meant to decorate and enrich Israeli gardens, and the Bauhaus buildings that populate beautifully widely the city of Tel Aviv and the Eucalyptuses were brought to since the middle of the 19th century in order to increase the density of the forest and give shade to the harsh sun and protection from winds.

Bornstein Wolff's art focuses on exploring urban nature, a nature that has somehow lost its connection to its immanent organic characteristics through man's manipulation. Wolff's artworks echo the alienation of humans from nature, one that is highly linked to our society's urbanization. As a multidisciplinary artist, she paints and creates objects that she merges into installations.
