DESIGNER POOJA ASHLEY LENDS THE OFFICE OF FORMER MINISTER AND INDUSTRIALIST HARSHWARDHAN PATIL A DESIGN THAT SUITS HIS DEMEANOUR.
SRISHTI SHETTY

With a brief to design a space that reflected the styles of the next generation office bearers, this office in Pune for former minister and industrialist Harshwardhan Patil reflects the taste of his kids Ankita and Raj. The next gen wanted to create a space that would be timeless, globally appealing and reflected their taste, and they got just that. Designer Pooja Ashley married design with passion, and the result is mind blowing.

FREE FLOWING SPACE

The office has bright daylight filtering in through fenestrations on the two sides. The plan and the design details were deliberately laid out to maximise the sunshine entering the office. The team has worked on a plan that allows these spaces to freely flow into one another visually as also in terms of connectivity. The conference and the meeting room have been spatially aligned to have direct access from the reception so that guests can be directed for a meeting to either of the spaces. To the left of the reception, three cabins have been zoned out in a line, while the workspaces and the private lounge have been organised behind the reception. The whole office spreads across 3,000 sq ft of area.

APPROACHING THE DESIGN LIKE ART

The design approach begins from the outside. The main door is camouflaged with a subtle panelling detail finished in matt grey. The linear groove texture on the panelling renders a minimal style to the façade. Recessed lighting at the top and bottom of the panelling adds a subtle golden wash along the wall and emphasises on the floating effect of the panel. The same texture has been pulled in behind the reception desk to form the backdrop. The reception table is kept minimal, like a rectangular white floating block, against the grey textured backdrop. A cluster of clear glass bowl suspension of lights hangs over the reception, its transparency allowing one to appreciate the light suspension without visually obstructing the view to the panelling. The whole office has been painted in a subtle textured paint from Me Casa. The soft colour of the wall resembles a canvas of art.
