In the world of design, Design-build isn’t a new concept. However, we have come a long way from adopting ‘jugaad’ (a makeshift solution) to having an organised Architect-led Design-build set up that offers specialised services for design and execution of the concepts. A design and build model assures design accuracy, as the design firms have end to end ownership. This, in turn, reduces the gap between the concept design and the final output as opposed to the traditional method where the translation from design to reality changes multiple hands.
COST & TIME EFFECTIVE, RISK FREE
“It’s based on strong fundamentals of cost, time and quality which de-risks the client of cost variations and saves time in procurement. The quality of delivery, time and resources from the client’s side are saved during the process of the project with lower risk and better thrust on buildability, resulting in client satisfaction and delight,” says Titir Dey, Managing Director - Design, Space Matrix.
A single contract for both design and construction transfers the majority of responsibility for the completeness, accuracy and integration of the design and construction processes to the Design-build entity. Since any project is the vision of the architect, an architect-led design-build delivery ensures that the original intent of the project does not get diluted. Designbuild is particularly common in designing commercial spaces that focus on creating international standard designs that can be replicated across different geographical locations. What really stands out is that Design-build is a collaboration, one that benefits both the client and the designer.
