A SOUTH Bristol sports stalwart received a British Empire Medal in front of family and friends at a special ceremony in Knowle West yesterday.

The Lord Lieutenant of Bristol, Peaches Golding, presented Mike Alden with the BEM medal at The Park centre in Knowle West, where he is chairman of a football club in the heart of the community. Mr Alden was named in the King's New Year's Honours List in January, with the award given for providing opportunities for adult
