Atelier Hoko co-founder Clara Koh recommends design books

"Two books that have inspired our creative practice at Atelier Hoko are Design As Art by Bruno Munari and Species Of Spaces And Other Pieces by Georges Perec - they showed us the importance of attending to the commonplace and the unremarkable.
Who: Artist and designer Clara Koh, 42, co-founder of Atelier Hoko. She started the independent research laboratory with her husband Alvin Ho in 2002. Their exhibition Book? - which interrogates the physical artefact of the book - was part of Singapore Design Week 2024. The exhibition, with the support of DesignSingapore Council, has since travelled to Tokyo and will stop by Seoul and Bangkok later in 2025. The couple have two children aged six and eight.
Munari often makes complex ideas accessible and this is probably why a lot of his works are well received by children and, unsurprisingly, less regarded by grownups.
