Mayor Tuason refutes allegations

The Philippine Star

October 22, 2025

This refers to the letter written by Atty.

Renfred C. Tan titled by your publication as "Kho belies Masbate ghost projects"published on Oct. 18, 2025. I am writing as legal counsel for former Mayor Socrates M. Tuason, whose name was mentioned in said letter without prior consultation or opportunity to clarify.

While Mr. Tuason fully respects press freedom and the right to expression, it is imperative to address certain statements in Atty. Tan's letter which, if left unrefuted, may unjustly prejudice him and mislead the reading public.

In the same letter, it was alleged that the complaints filed against former governor now Congressman Antonio T. Kho "were initiated... at the behest of then incumbent Masbate City mayor Socrates M. Tuason." This assertion is incorrect and entirely without factual basis. Mr. Tuason categorically denies ever instigating, directing or otherwise exercising control over the filing of said complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman. To state or imply that these cases were initiated solely at his behest is a grave misrepresentation of fact that unfairly imputes ill motive to his name.
