Fatima University Medical Center in Antipolo (FUMC), a trusted leader in eye care in the country, recently launched the integration of the revolutionary Zeiss Smile (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) Pro technology in its Eye Laser Center offerings.

Smile is a laser eye surgery procedure, a type of refractive surgery, that reshapes the cornea to correct vision problems like nearsightedness and astigmatism. It's considered the gold standard in laser eye surgery. The procedure is called as such because of the shape of the incision it makes.

"Smile could also be because there will be a change in your lifestyle," enthuses FUMC president Dr. Vicente Santos during the launch at FUMC in Antipolo.

ZEISS THE DAY

To date, there are only two eye centers in the country which use the cutting-edge Zeiss Visumax 800 to perform the Smile procedure. Dr. Yong Larrazabal has it in his clinic in Cebu.

"In Luzon, FUMC is the first one to offer this procedure," adds Dr. Santos. It's also the hospital's second Zeiss Visumax unit, following its first femtosecond laser machine—the Visumax 500—acquired 10 years ago.
