Coir exporters raise alarm over 50% US tariff

THE Federation of Indian Coir Exporters Associations (FICEA) has raised concerns over the survival of the coir industry following the US' decision to impose a 50% tariff on Indian coir products.
Exporters said the move has crippled the sector's competitiveness in the US market, threatening jobs, production, and the state's export reputation. In a letter to the state government, FICEA chairman Roby Francis said the situation must be treated as an 'emergency' and warned of irreparable losses unless immediate measures are taken.
