NEWCASTLE United youngster Ben Parkinson is ‘hitting the benchmarks’ as he continues to work his way back towards full fitness after an injury-ravaged 12 months.
The Magpies academy product made his first-team debut as a substitute in a Premier League defeat at Bournemouth just over two years ago and was also named in 11 other senior squads during the 2023/24 season.
After making a fine start to the following campaign with 11 goals in the first half of the season, Parkinson had been lined up to make a loan move away from St James’ Park and gain consistent gametime with an EFL or National League club.
However, an ankle injury ended any thoughts of a temporary switch and the Durham-born striker then went on to suffer a broken bone in his foot and several other niggling injuries that have all but ended the momentum that initially brought him to Eddie Howe's attention.
