Car dealer jailed for helping road rage killer
The Journal
|September 19, 2025
A ROAD rage killer’s best friend has joined him behind bars after helping him hide his car and giving him a BMW to use after he caused the death of a pedestrian.
Jake McIntyre killed Andrew Peart with a wheel brace after they clashed in what began as a minor traffic altercation in Guide Post, Northumberland on the evening of August 22, 2023.
After words were exchanged, Andrew - who was intoxicated - challenged McIntyre to a fight.
Later, McIntyre, who was said to have had amateur boxing and cage fighting experience, returned to the scene after arming himself with the metal tool and hit Andrew to the head with it after tracking him down.
He later recording himself bragging, saying he had “wrapped a pole around his head”. Mr Peart died eight days later.
McIntyre, 29, of Stakeford Crescent, Stakeford, Ashington, was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter and was jailed for 14 years.
Now his friend, car dealer Mark Twizell, 41, of Oakville, North Seaton, Ashington, who provided McIntyre with another car and allowed him to store a Mitsubishi Shogun he had been driving on the night of the attack on land available to him, has been locked up for assisting an offender.
Newcastle Crown Court heard McIntyre was arrested in the Lake District after the killing but police couldn't find the Shogun and didn’t find it until six months later, after it had passed through various hands and any potential forensic evidence had been lost.
