Plymouth University set to axe lecturers

THE University of Plymouth has stressed it will keep compulsory redundancies ‘to a minimum’ as it embarks on a period of jobs consultations with staff.

However, while confirming that the consultations have begun, university chiefs have stressed that the institution remains ‘in a strong financial position’.

They say the job losses are in ‘academic areas’ and a single ‘professional services function’. Sources have told The Herald the redundancies affect academic and nonacademic staff and departments such as English, history, business, education and politics.
