Council urges quick repair of collapsed Paknaan riprap

The Mandaue City Council approved a resolution urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office-7 to immediately repair, rehabilitate, or reconstruct a collapsed flood-control structure along the Butuanon River in Barangay Paknaan.
The resolution, sponsored by Councilor Joel Seno and cosponsored by Councilor Jesus Arcilla Jr., cites an inspection conducted by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) last Saturday, February 14, which confirmed the collapse of the structure along the riverbank.
In an interview, Seno said the damage to the flood control project was triggered by a large volume of water that hit the structure during Typhoon Tino November 4 last year.
“It was unexpected. Some things happened that were unpreventable and unforeseeable --we call that a fortuitous event,” Seno said.
Seno said the council is urging the DPWH to undertake repairs, as it is the primary agency responsible for implementing flood-control projects.
