Action comes close on heels of a minister promising a protesting Jain monk to find a solution within 15 days
Amid the simmering controversy over pigeon feeding ban, the BMC razed a prominent kabutarkhana near Kalachowki on Monday morning.
Decrying the move as "illegal", an activist vowed to challenge the demolition before the Bombay HC.
The civic body's action is also a major setback for the Jain community, which has been at the forefront of opposing the kabutarkhana closures. Jain monk Nileshchandra Vijay had begun a hunger strike at Azad Maidan on November 3, demanding the restoration of Dadar kabutarkhana.
