Our dark passenger

We have an attraction to the darkness. It's something inexplicable but as a closet sociologist sans qualification, people watching has shown me a few things over the years.

One of the biggest lessons is that people find the dark side of everything way more attractive.

It's curious, because it is macabre. When there is a car accident, we cannot help but slow down and take in someone else's misfortune while cursing the traffic and other drivers at the same time. The same goes for drivers who don't indicate, jump stop streets and of course, taxi drivers are blamed for near all evils on the road.

I have never seen anyone behave in the opposite - waving at a fellow road user and complimenting them on good driving and conscientiousness. Hell no, focusing on the negative is far more fun and more human. Entertainment, perhaps? True Crime is a global obsession.
