Will Broos take the risk on Zwane?

Hugo Broos is just a few weeks away from announcing his final Bafana Bafana squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and many are waiting to see if Themba Zwane will be on the plane to Morocco for the competition.

It's no secret that Broos would like to have the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder in the team, but there is one big factor that could determine whether or not he is in the team, and that's his fitness. Less than two months before the start of the competition, Soccer Laduma looks at the latest developments regarding Zwane.

What the Siya crew has been told...

One of the big talking points ahead of next month's Africa Cup of Nations is whether Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane will be available to take part in the competition with Bafana Bafana.

Zwane has not featured in Sundowns' matchday squad since picking up an injury in September when he came on as a substitute in a 3-0 victory over Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership. The 36-year-old had just come back from an injury and sustained another one against Magesi and had not played a single minute of football by the time of going to print. With AFCON set to start on December 21, Zwane is in a race against time to be in top condition to play in a competition of high intensity and has to start getting some minutes on the pitch for Sundowns.

Soccer Laduma understands that the Sundowns technical team doesn't want to rush the attacking midfielder back onto the pitch and has been working closely with the medical team to check on the player's progress. This is to ensure that they do not find themselves in a situation where Zwane gets injured again, so Soccer Laduma understands that they are being careful. Zwane has been training with the team on the pitch at Chloorkop and is understood to have made good progress over the last few weeks, though he is not yet at the point of starting a match for the Tshwane giants.

Adams faces race against time

Jayden Adams' international future hangs in the balance, and the countdown has officially begun. With just one month remaining before Hugo Broos finalises his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, the 24-year-old midfielder finds himself in a position few would have predicted two years ago. Once a rising star of Stellenbosch FC and a standout performer at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Adams now faces the harsh reality of reduced game time at Mamelodi Sundowns and uncertainty around his Bafana Bafana role. The player who earned his way into Broos' plans through hard work and consistency has slipped into unfamiliar territory at club level, and his national team prospects have dimmed as a result. The Siya crew has been tracking his situation closely, uncovering worrying signs behind the scenes as Adams fights to keep his AFCON dream alive.
