Petrol vapour likely cause of house fire that killed man and woman

TWO people who died in a village house fire have been named.

The man and woman who died after a fire at a house on Bridle Road, Burton Joyce, on July 6 last year were Pamela Barron and Derek Gould, an inquest has been told.

Pamela, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled from the property by firefighters. Her brother-in-law Derek, 83, fled and was taken to hospital by an air ambulance, but died 21 days later.

In an inquest into their deaths on Friday, July 18, assistant coroner Neena Sharma said: “The fire was contained to the kitchen, with the most probable cause being from escaped vapours which had been ignited accidently by a naked flame.
