Barum need big second leg to defeat Brixham
North Devon Journal
|May 01, 2025
BARNSTAPLE coach Winston James wants his side to remember the game plan when they square up to Brixham this Saturday in the second leg of the Papa John's Championship quarter-final.
Brixham came from behind - they were 14-0 down in the first 15 minutes - to beat Barum 47-38 in an end-to-end clash at Astley Park.
A penalty try awarded to Barnstaple in the last minute of the match made a sizeable dent in Brixham's advantage, which is a slender nine points with 80 minutes to play.
The two sides do it all again this Saturday at Pottington Road with the prize of a home semi-final on the line.
Win that one and it's next stop Twickenham.
Having gone all the way to last season's inaugural final at Twickenham, where they lost in extra time to Heath RFC from Yorkshire, Barnstaple know better than most the lure of the prize.
James is eager to have a Twickenham win on his coaching CV, but feels Barum have work to do to get past Brixham.
