Juyal, Mavi star in UP's important victory in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Young opener Aryna Juyal on Tuesday struck his season's maiden century in white-ball cricket as former joint winners Uttar Pradesh defeated Chandigarh by four wickets to keep their hopes alive for a berth in the knockout of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Vizianagaram.

With this win in their fifth match, Uttar Pradesh now stand at the second position with 14 points. They will now take on table topper Vidarbha (16 pts) in their last league match of Group D on January 3.

Juyal, who struck an unbeaten 86 against Mizoram in the tournament, not only smashed a century, but gave a sound start to Uttar Pradesh along with fellow opener Abhishek Goswami with a century stand as the team romped home with 19 balls to spare while chasing 272.

Despite losing two quick wickets in the middle session, Uttar Pradesh never got the going tough as Juyal and Goswami added 108 runs for the opening wicket. Goswami struck 63-ball 50 with the help of four boundaries and a six, whereas Juyal scored 116 in 125 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and two sixes.
