Police visit murder scene to reassure the city public stabbing was 'isolated' incident

A LEADING police officer has downplayed any connection between ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour in the St Peter's Street area and Tuesday's stabbing, which left a Derby restaurant owner dead.

Named locally and known to his friends as Danny, whose real name is Gurvinder Singh Johal, he owned the Hen and Chickens Bar and Grill at Shelton Lock and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Superintendent Becky Webster went to Derby city centre on yesterday afternoon and read out a statement which sought to reassure people that the incident was an isolated and not linked to other known individuals.

She also said that there “had been significant work with partners over the past 12 months” to improve the area - as well as the wider city centre.
