Holiday park Wetherspoons plan axed ‘due to tourism tax’

PLANS for an investment of more than £3m to build a Wetherspoons pub on a North Wales holiday park have been scrapped - with sources blaming the Welsh Government's tourism tax.

- By OWEN HUGHES Chief Reporter

The proposals for a JD Wetherspoon pub at the Presthaven holiday park were approved by Flintshire Council this year.

It was due to be one of five Wetherspoons pubs to be developed at Haven sites in the UK. All the projects in England are moving ahead this winter in an investment of about £9m.

But the largest scheme - set for the holiday park at Gronant, near Prestatyn - has been pulled. An industry source said this was due to the incoming tourism tax in Wales. They said that the tax had made Wales “uninvestable.”
