Parents told of 13 more days of strike action at Cov school

PARENTS at a Coventry school have been told more teacher strikes are on the way.

- By DANNY THOMPSON

As previously reported, teachers at Bishop Ullathorne Catholic School announced they were taking action earlier this month over concerns about increased workloads.

A series of six day strikes were set to take place throughout November, but as we approach the end of the month, the school has alerted parents about a further thirteen days of action across the rest of this current term and into January.

A parent with children at the school told us: “It’s becoming a nightmare. My son is in such an important year which is supposed to be preparing for GCSEs - he missed a substantial period of schooling through the Covid lockdowns and is yet again being let down by a system that is allegedly there to focus on my child’s education and well being.”

Chris Denson, National Executive Member for the National Education Union has explained why more strike dates have been added.

“We've been really clear with the trust what the issues are that our members want improvements on, particularly around workload,” he said.

“Their workload has been made worse by changes that have happened, and they want some rectification on that - one of the key sticking points is having a proper negotiating body so their concerns can be raised on a termly basis.
